Making 24/7 Home Nursing a Cost Effective Reality

Consultus Care & Nursing Agency is acknowledged nationally as an expert in "live-in" domiciliary care and home nursing. The company facilitates over a half-million hours of live-in care and nursing annually across the UK and is probably the only care provider with a dedicated Live-in Nursing team.

Consultus Live-in Nursing Service (CLINS) work with healthcare providers including NHS primary care trusts, health boards, local authorities and private care providers to enable even the most frail and sick people to stay safe and happy at home for as long as they wish. Commissioners recognize that our price can offer them savings against national primary care tariffs, local agency rates and hospice care costs.

This is a 'managed service' - quite dissimilar to 'agency staff hire' and community matrons and care managers say that Consultus is "a Godsend" because our own team relieves them of much day to day case work. Our company operates at a very high standard and is rated "Excellent" by the Commission for Social Care Inspection; our director sits on the General Social Care Council stakeholder committee.

Making Home Nursing a Cost Effective Reality

The advantages of 'live-in' care and nursing

As we all know, the best thing for some people's overall well-being is to be at home, but when they need round-the-clock support the issue of cost cannot be avoided. Some PCTs and local authorities still believe that 24/7 homecare means expensive agency rotas; others know there is a cost-efficient alternative.

CLINS live-in nurses can be arranged at short notice to provide round-the-clock care and supervision even to the most rural areas of the U.K., providing vital healthcare and support to patients and their carers.

Our unique systems, refined over almost five decades, have helped us to build probably the largest bank of live-in nurses and care assistants anywhere in Britain. Each one of them enjoys the experience of giving one-to-one care to a single client and seeing how their nurturing contributes to their client's day to day improvement or the client's quality of life in their final days.

Full-time care in the home of the service user should be considered where the patient craves their independence and privacy. If the option proves unsustainable then at least the patient will know that all has been done to meet their request and this may help him or her to accept a residential placement. CLINS can provide a bespoke report showing what live-in nursing could do for an individual and what it would cost.

Competitive Rates

We recognise that care providers are under enormous pressure to deliver on two competing imperatives: to balance the books whilst achieving service modernisation in line with national policy such as the DoH's 'Our Health, Our Care, Our Say'.

We at CLINS can work with you and your service users to achieve both of these. Our hourly charge rates (see next page) are much less than you might expect for such well qualified staff and we can demonstrate conclusively that in many instances (including respite, convalescent and other relief care- HRG codes S21 and S24) can be provided by qualified live-in nurses at a reduced or similar cost from the National NHS tariff. Standard rates are shown on the next page.

"We would like to thank you very much for all the excellent nursing care and management support that we have received from Consultus in what has not been an easy care package… Please pass our sincere thanks on to all of your staff that have been involved in Mr. K's care."
HS & DH, Clinical Services Managers, Adult Provider Services, PCT

"Both nurses who cared for [patient] Dr. Y were spectacular and were able to complement each other as a result of their different areas of expertise. Both provided excellent support to the family [who were] very appreciative of the nurses' sensitivity, kindness and professionalism. D was particularly good during and after the death of Dr. Y and handled all the arrangements competently.
JF, London

"Undoubtedly, to be cared for in your own home - unless you need acute hospital care - there's no better place to be. People are more relaxed, they're in their own environment. They don't get confused because they know where everything is. They don't have lots of different faces around them they don't know. So if they're at home they recover much, much quicker."
GH, Community Matron, East Sussex
