Special 'Live-in' Staff Cover for Care Homes and Clinics

Consultus can provide staff cover for care homes and hospitals anywhere in the UK and Channel Islands on a live-in basis for great cost savings. This service is particularly popular:

  • In areas away from large population centres where local agency nurses are hard to come by
  • If a nurse is needed to work up to 10 hours a day, seven days a week
  • Where a nurse is required to be on site at all times and costs are to be kept low (see Case Study below)

We will supply only appropriately skilled and experienced nurses or HCAs with full professional references and CRB checks. Our nurses are extremely experienced, can work unsupervised and take charge, if necessary.

Along with a low hourly rate, clients pay nurses' travel expenses and provide accommodation and meals but still usually find that over several days a Consultus Live-in nurse or HCA costs them far less than a succession of local agency nurses.

Consultus Care & Nursing Agency

Care Home managers have booked Consultus live-in staff for up to four months at a time, which not only gives them the chance to enjoy a well-earned break but ensures qualified cover is always on-site if needed.

We recommend booking staff well in advance - please ask our Nursing Manager for terms.

Care Home Case Study

In March 2007, Matron called Consultus. She knew many of the staff at her 43-bed nursing home were going away throughout the spring and summer – and she wanted a decent break herself!

As their location was quite remote it was always difficult to find sufficient staff and reliability from local nursing agencies. The ideal solution was to have someone who could stay for the duration. So much better than having to find and retrain a succession of different people. She needed someone well qualified, who could keep the place running while she was away.

Matron had a spare room on the premises. So much the better – the nurse could live-in and be on-call if needed. She knew of a nearby home that used a specialist agency to meet the same needs and got from them the agency's number.

Consultus employs 'live-in' nurses and health care assistants – professional staff who enjoy the opportunity of living away from their own homes for weeks at a time and seeing new parts of the country. When Matron called, the manager suggested a nurse who had the right kind of experience – grasby pumps, making up syringes, IM and SC injections, administering oxygen, supervising HCAs, etc.

Consultus thought of their nurse Carla, who is well trained and has a good way with residents and their families. She also has experience of taking charge and would provide good liaison with GPs and community nurses.

Matron spoke to Carla and was convinced. The nurse arrived in May and after a period of shadowing was added to the rota – five days a week plus on-call. The Matron put Carla in charge and oversaw her progress for a while. She had no hesitation in leaving her home in Carla's capable hands.

On Matron's return from holiday, she and Carla had a discussion. The placement had been a triumph and Carla was having a marvellous time so Matron asked her to stay on well into September. The assignment was so successful Matron even booked a second live-in nurse from Consultus for a month, allowing herself a second holiday.

As well as the support provided by Matron and her staff, the nurses also had the back-up and encouragement of the managers at Consultus, who monitored their progress. The agency provided all concerned with valuable advice and reassurance and Matron congratulated the team on their work and dedicated nurses.

"Matron has returned this week so my duties have altered to a more 'hands-on' role with residents' care. She is pleased to find that all is well… Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to work in such a lovely Home."
