Consultus Care & Nursing Agency specialises in ‘live-in’ home nursing and care. Thanks to increasing demand from NHS and private clients we need more Registered Nurses and NVQ qualified Care Assistants to live and work with clients throughout England, Scotland and Wales.
If you have little or no professional experience but you would like live-in companionship work please click here.

Every week Consultus has hundreds of nurses and care assistants on assignment in the UK, earning good money doing worthwhile, stimulating work. Live-in nursing and care is personally rewarding and fits in well with the lifestyle of people who like to travel and get plenty of time off between assignments. Our staff particularly enjoy the opportunity of providing meaningful one-to-one care and seeing how their work directly helps the people they care for.
Live-in bookings offer you:
Consultus Nursing’s clients are mostly older people with advanced dementia or conditions such as MS and motor neurone disease. They may have respiratory or communication problems, or are rehabilitating after an operation. Some clients are terminally ill: they book a Consultus nurse to ensure their final days are lived in peace and comfort at home.
As a live-in nurse or health care assistant you will have a bedroom in your client’s home and at the end of the booking – after a few days or weeks – you will hand over to a colleague before going home or moving on to a new client.
You will work ten hours a day and always be available for overtime in case of need. Nurses will create care plans based on the Roper system and conduct risk assessments as well as undertake personal care, housekeeping and cooking duties.
Job Requirements
First of all you must have:
You will also have the character and desire to be a good friend and companion and to help inspire and encourage your clients with conversation and stimulating activities. You need to be able to act as formally or as casually, or be as cheerful or discreet as your clients like you to be. Drivers with clean licences are particularly sought after by our clients. We have a minimum age limit of 21.
We welcome people from overseas with excellent English who have the right to work for staff agencies in Great Britain, i.e. no ‘work permits’ but certain visas (e.g. Young Working Holidaymaker, Highly Skilled Migrant, Ancestry) are okay. Some of our nurses live in the EU and fly-in especially for bookings. We have a great many staff from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa who enjoy travelling the UK.
To work as a Consultus nurse you must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and be an RN1 RNA ‘general’ nurse so RNMHs must also be registered for general nursing. We greatly welcome other nurses, foreign trained (non-NMC registered) nurses and retired nurses as Health Care Assistants. Post-op and palliative experience is an advantage.
Health Care Assistants must have gained at least an NVQ level 2 qualification or equivalent and have a couple of years professional experience. Evidence of sound literacy and numeracy and written and verbal English communication skills are necessary, as is an up-to-date manual handling training certificate and familiarity with hoists (see HCA job specification). You will need to register with the General Social Care Council (GSCC) when compulsory registration is introduced.
A new Criminal Records Bureau disclosure and POVA check will be required along with two professional references.
Benefits
Registered nurse pay is currently £769 per standard seven-day booking. With overtime our nurses can earn over £1,000 per week. ‘Night nurses’ can earn £1,100 plus overtime. Health Care Assistant pay starts at £505 per week (£700 for all-night work) plus overtime. Other benefits include room and meals while on assignment, refunded travel costs to and from assignments and the possibility of a substantial pay ‘bonus’ if your booking is cancelled or ends early (details on request).
Your interview can be held in Kent (40 minutes from central London), Devon or the West Midlands. Interview travel costs can be returned after you start work (terms and conditions apply).
We need to talk to you before we offer you an interview so please telephone the Nursing Department on (01732) 771924/770403 between 9.15am – 1.00pm or 2.15pm – 5.15pm, Monday to Friday, though you may first like to take our test to make sure you meet our criteria.
